UNIT 6 - Exercise/Assessment Process

        Exercise/Assessment Process

The universal loving kindness exercise is a very powerful one that may not have physical meaning but gives a deeper leap into personal development. We are unable to accomplish anything in life without the thought of it first. It only makes sense to focus on words or certain goals and work towards it. As mentioned before, in a previous unit, I need to work on loving myself and then loving others. I like this exercise because it's short but also gives me the ability to expand my mind and serve as a way to eliminate hatred and negative thoughts.

The integral assessment process helps us to get from one level of development to another, progressively moving us toward our personal goal of human flourishing. It serves as a tool to evaluate aspects within our lives. Although I do like to observe, think, and overanalyze, I usually don't ask myself the main questions behind it. One question that I caught while reading included "What aspect of my life - psychospiritual, biological, interpersonal, or worldly - is the source of my difficulty or suffering?" After conducting both the exercise and practice, I found that I should work on myself, emotionally. However, I have chosen to focus on biological flourishing first. This is because I would like to focus on my physical strength and health overall. Some specific activities/exercises I can implement to foster greater wellness in this area could include Zumba classes, no slacking on my exercise regiment, and developing a cleaner diet by eliminating unnecessary sweets. I have found that exercising and a healthier diet brings me happiness and because of that I am a more aware and joyous individual.

  1. I question everything, listen attentively, and over-analyze. But like you, I think I forget to question the main things. Sometimes I catch myself later asking myself why I didn't think of questioning other things. Is it possible to over-analyze to the point you over-look things that are sometimes really important? I think so. I like that you found something that you recognize makes you happy from within, that's a major step toward obtaining integral health!

  2. With a clean diet comes a clean mind. As you get closer and closer to reaching and maintaining your biological goal you will naturally notice your life changing around you. Your entire outlook on life will be different and eating healthy and workout out will come so natural! Also, after removing sugar from your diet you won’t even crave it anymore! (That is of course after the initial cravings go away). Hot yoga is a great exercise that will burn some major calories, tone you up and give you time to meditate all in 1 hour! Good luck on your goals!

  3. I did the Universal Loving-Kindness exercise and it was all about freedom from suffering. I did not totally agree with it because based on the choices and decisions we make in life, a little bit of pain and suffering can me therapeutic. I would call it healthy suffering that can change out minds to make better, healthier choices to flourish. I believe some suffering can lead us to freedom in all aspects of our life.

  4. Hello Felicia! I enjoyed both the exercise and assessment. I was able to focus in a quiet state of mind. I agree with you, that the Loving Kindness exercise allows you to release a lot of hatred against others and in sense pray or hope that good things come towards them.
