UNIT 3 - My Holistic Personal Inventory

Reflection

I'm not sure when the last time was that I took to actually evaluate my overall level of wellness. What about you? Based on my reflection, on a scale of 1-10 (ten being optimal well-being), I would rate each aspect of my being differently.
I would rate my physical well-being an 8. I think I'm standard in terms of keeping my body heathy and being active. However, I can delay or procrastinate and my overall body should be cherished and not put off. One short-term goal I would like to achieve for my physical well-being includes stretching and taking more time out of my day to take a walk or go for run. Not only will this allow me time to exercise my body but alone time to just free my mind. I always feel good after a great workout or a good heart to heart with myself (lol If that makes sense).
I would rate my spiritual well-being a 6. This is an area that I should really work on. For this specific aspect of my optimal health, I believe there are two goals I would like to create and achieve. The first being, meditation. I would like to try something new and possibly get in tune with my own sense of mind. What's better than finding inner peace, reducing stress levels, and restoring my calm? The second goal being giving back to the community. I would like to give and possibly maybe coach a soccer team for the nearest army post. I have had experience before but have not volunteered my time in awhile. I think that should be a goal of mine sometime in the near future.
I would rate my psychological well-being a 7. I believe I have some sort of a length in terms of actually achieving the full range of my psychological well-being. It comes with self-acceptance, personal growth, being in tune with my own body, having environmental mastery, and acceptable personal relationships with others. Although I am not far from any of these things, I do wish to connect with long lost friends and family members. I would also like to make it a goal of mine to focus on me rather than placing everyone before me in specific areas of my life.

It all comes with time, patience, determination, and willingness...

  1. Felicia,

I also said that volunteering is a good goal to help increase the sense of spiritual wellbeing. Volunteering is one of those things that can help everyone. It helps the people who need it most and it helps the person who is doing the volunteering. It puts me in such a better mood and makes me look at life differently when I know that I have been able to do something beneficial for someone else. I hope you are able to find something that you will love to do and be able to change a life or two along the way.

  2. I think the fact that you are so healthy is great! The small things you listed for goals may seem big sometimes, but just think of all the great things you are already doing for yourself. I have to say the hardest thing for you will probably be putting yourself first. I have this problem also, and I know it is extremely difficult because you still want others to be happy to. Good luck with your goals I am sure you will do great!

  3. Hi Felicia,

I think when it comes to personal wellness many of us actually just lack the time, or they procrastinate, I know I do often. Sometimes I know that I should be doing some physical exercise, or I should really sit down and meditate, but at the first sign of free time I'd much rather snuggle up on the couch and read a good book and if it is just for 30 minutes. Doesn't that also count as down time, meditative almost? I'd love to think so, although I know better. Reading relaxes me though and I also like to cook and garden in the summer to let my body and mind reflect and rest. I too feel that volunteering and giving back to the community is a form of spiritual enhancement, a way to consciously stretch our boundaries and expand our personal horizons. I am reminded by your post how important it is for me to actually also consider getting back in touch with old friends or family I haven't heard from in a long time.

    Dunja :)

  4. Stretching is the hardest thing to get down! I should have done that for my goal! It was a goal of mine a long time ago to start stretching but instead of just sitting on the floor stretching I decided to start doing yoga. It was a good compromise because this way I stretch when I have to doing yoga and then I don't feel so bad if I don't stretch the next day. Good luck on your goals! I enjoyed reading your blog posts.

  5. Hi Felicia... I thought I had posted already to this but somehow, someway- it's not here :(. Just a suggestion that you are probably aware of but thought that you could combine your spiritual well being and your physical well being goals by doing yoga. Yoga allows you to stretch, get in shape, and also meditate so that you can get in tune with yourself. I am one who keeps saying that I want to start yoga but have yet to do it. I tell myself every week that I am going to start the following week... I'm a big procrasinator... UGH. However, one of these days I am going to actually follow thru and do this. Good luck on your goals as they seem to be attainable and reachable and not impossible.

  6. Hello Felicia! I really enjoy reading your ratings. I thought it was interesting that you said you would like to spend more time in the community giving back. That is a very good goal to accomplish. I think its great to give back and I think more people, myself included, should try to give back more often.

  7. Hello Felicia,

I would like to start by saying great post. After reading your post I must say that I really like your idea of stretching, walking and going for a run. It is some of the best exercises you can do for your body and mind. I would highly recommend these for my clients for relaxation techniques if I had clients.
I would like to know what you thought of the relaxation exercises for this week? I found them very relaxing and helpfull for relaxing different body parts. Keep the great post coming, I look forward to reading them. Miles Holt

  8. Hello Felicia,
We all have hurdle to climb at some point to reach the goal of ultimate wholeness. However, once found you find a power that only you yourself will savor in its joy. You will find beauty in that you once saw none, and feel joy and happiness and things that never before mattered. The journey never stops, it continues for life.
